I just did a search for "pie"

as in a search for one of my posts for pie chart. and got a no results found.

the funny thin is the page that I was looking at previously had a post at the top that used the word pie numerous times.

Does anyone else have the same difficulty searching for things here???

I have also had trouble getting results when searching on LAVA. But I figured it was just user error... tongue.gif Maybe the default options for search need to be expanded somehow?

You can use google to seach lava using the "site:" option. I did the search "pie site:lavag.org" and I had 261 hits. A search of "pie njkirchner site:lavag.org" gets 8 hits including the one for which you were looking. Of couse it would be nice if LAVA's search worked better. Maybe if more of us became premium members this kind of improvement could be pushed.

Maybe - why not try and find out? wink.gif

Maybe we could add the Google site search into our site somewhere instead of using the default engine? Although I agree that the Invision Power Board search function is limited, I don't think you can select which forum categories to search with the Google engine. I'm wonering if the issue is that "pie", being only a three letter word, is considered too short for the engine, whereas "piechart" returns meaningful data, as does "+pie* + chart". "pie*" also returns a crapload of threads, although "pie" is all over the place (like in the word "copied") so that's not much good either...

In the portal I have on the right pane as first item the "Search Lava" which uses Google if I enter pie I'll get 12 hits

Hey - that's pretty sweet smile.gif Maybe we could add it to the top pane of the forums too?

I made some tweaks to the LAVA search engine. Can everyone try it out and let me know if it's better?

Well the pie search is definetly more fruitful. Although it looks as though it still prioritizes words with 'pie' inside of them rather than the word ' pie ' alone.

I just did a search for "UML" and got nothing thumbdown.gif I then tried "UML*" and got some hits, so I figure I'd add a post here - I did a search for "+search +sucks" and, you guessed it, no results! I finally found this post after searchinf for only "+sucks" smile.gif

Well I may have to edit my original post. Nice job on the Google search.

BUT WAIT!! Does anyone else see this problem... when I click on a search result, no page pops up and I have no popup blockers on and the only way to see the clicked result is to shift click the result and a new window pops up.

I'm using IE 6.0 and No I can not use firefox, I like activex too much.

I'm running IE7 and it's working fine. What I mean is that when I click on a link it opens it in the same browser window. What was your expectation? Also, IE7 has tabs so you can shift+middleclick to open it in a tab. By default the links open in the same window, what are you looking for?

Well I suppose I didn't make the problem clear.
Nothing happens when I click a link. nada. And I need to stay @ IE6.
