What are some of your favorite "generic" (i.e. non-NI) DAQ instruments? DIO, AIO, etc.
I like Ontrak, for reasons I can't really explain other than comfort level, and Measurement Computing, which most of you have probably heard of. -Richard

There are two models of iUSBDAQs, they have the best performance/price ratio. Besides the newest model iUSBDAQ - U1208LOG is unique that combines three features into one DAQ (PC control mode up to 64ksamples/s, standalone data logger mode to USB flash disk directly and build in video functions) that you don't find others on the market, plus still low price. Your "One more thing" is a good thing to know. My issue with replacing RS232 stuff with USB is the drivers required. It just seems when RS232 stuff works, it works great and works from computer-to-computer with no issues*, whereas the USB DAQ piece may require a CD-ROM to float with it where ever it goes.
*ASRL1::INSTR vs. "COM1" notwithstanding
