JOB DESCRIPTON CLASS TITLE: SOFTWARE TEST ENGINEER Department: Engineering Location: Tustin Reports To: Manager, Software Design Job Code: Revision Date: 8/30/04 FLSA Status: JOB SUMMARY: The Software Test Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, upgrading and executing automated test scripts and architectures for software and firmware created by the Software Design group. The position also requires the engineer to create test plans, document test results, track software problems to ensure they are corrected and support existing non-automated testing. Essential Functions: · Analysis of software requirements · Development and review of test plans and procedures · Design and develop automated test software · Documentation of test results · Estimation of man-hours and schedule needed to complete software testing projects · Testing of legacy product upgrades using existing test platforms · Communications with both internal and external customers · Good use of prioritization, problem solving and decision making skills · Knowledge of equipment and tools used in the software testing process · Meeting attendance as needed for support of products · Management of test documentation · Analysis and improvement of the software testing process · Commitment to quality Qualification Requirements: · BS degree with a background in software or electronics. · Minimum of 2 years experience in software testing with microcontroller based hardware · Thorough understanding of the software testing process · Familiarity with common test equipment, including digital voltmeters and oscilloscopes · Experience with C, Java, LabVIEW, XML and TCL languages is desirable · Experience with NI-PXI data acquisition and NI TestStand is desirable · Basic understanding of serial communications protocols (RS232, RS485) is desirable · Skilled in standard Word Processing, Database and Spreadsheet applications · Good verbal and written communication skills · Ability to multi-task and prioritize changing assignments · Can work independently or as part of a team
