Well, unfortunately my first try to get the file via http failed after 250MB (of a 450MB total size)
With ftp I could resume from there - http urges me to start from the beginning.
My apologies, NI admins, for raising the traffic level by reloading the first 250 megs.

Anyone trying to download a file this big using basic Windows IE download feature is likely to be extremely disappointed. Most browsers can't not, by default, handle a file download this large. I recommend getting a file download tool. I like to use something called "Star Downloader", personally, which has a free version.

I've updated all the links to Jim's new posted location. It should work now. BTW, I used Firefox default download system and it worked the first time, perfectly.

Right-click labview_80.exe -> Save it to a location with 500 megs free.

Yep, Firefox download worked well too. Wouldn't ever have tried the same with IE though. Even 50MB files used to be a one out of ten chance to work.

I managed to download 130 MB of the file using IE (which varied between 8-80 KB\s) before I experienced a local power outage, which caused my internet connection to die. I also think I remember downloading other files which were several hundered MBs using IE (I don't remember which files, though), so either I'm the one in ten, or IE works OK now.
After the power was back I restarted with DAP and got it all at around 200 KB\s (DAP simulates several users downloading at the same time, allowing you to get better speed).

Just because a file completes download doesn't mean all the bytes in it are correctly downloaded. Its surprising how often this is true. To be safe, download a checking utility called "md5sum.exe" here:

Run "md5sum.exe labview_80.exe" and the program should spit out this checksum:

42950520eb90d3908c74e97461480988

Of course, this is my result. If they change the file on the server, the checksum would change. Perhaps someone here can give me a "Hey I got that too!"

It only takes a couple minutes to do this and is far easier than dealing with the ill-effects of a slightly warped download.

Howdy! I lead the Web Systems team at NI; we're the ones making the file available electronically. Saw this discussion and wanted to chime in with some helpful notes...

1. The MD5 checksum of the labview_80.exe file is indeed 42950520eb90d3908c74e97461480988; we've added a labview_80.exe.md5 file with this sum in it to the site for your convenience.

2. The file is definitely still available via FTP, you can use ftp://labview8.ni.com/evaluation/labview/pc/labview_80.exe - we have it available via HTTP as well for people that have problems FTPing at http://labview8.ni.com/evaluation/labview/pc/labview_80.exe. We do recommend using FTP. When you fill out the page at http://digital.ni.com/demo.nsf/websearch/1...&node=157200_US (and please do take a sec to do this, we'd love to hear more about you before you download) it will try to open the download via FTP automatically but provides a http:// link as a backup.

3. Anyone having trouble downloading LV8, please do report it to us at webmaster@ni.com or by going to https://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/nicc.call_me?p_form_id=5. Suggestions on how to improve your software downloading experience are also welcome!

Hi, I currently have LabVIEW 7.1 installed in my lab, but I'd really like to move over to LabVIEW 8.

What are the implications of downloading and running the LV8 download that is being linked in this thread? Ie, do I need to purchase new licenses, or can I re-use my old ones, etc? Thanks.
