Forgive me if this is an ignorant Q. Ibeen too busy to stop by lately..

My last tredge through the paypal website was like flying in a hurricane.

I know a lot of you guys use it and swear by it but for myself Id rather just enter a number and be done with it,.

Q is is the membership still paid through paypal or has it improved a bit since last year?
Thanks

Not sure what the issue is really. If you don't have a Paypal account then you can just use your credit card on the Paypal site.

I think the issue is that for an automatic membership you need to have a 'verified' account (one that is backed by a credit card or a bank account).
Paying a non-membership fee of the same amount is much easier.
But paypal is expanding the countries where you can have a trusted account without a credit card.

Well, if anyone has problems then send me a payment for the subscription amount any which way you can and I will manually enable the subscription.

Does anyone know a decent way to make a money transfer from the EU to the USA besides PayPal?
I'd really love to buy a premium membership, but I don't want to use PayPal, because I don't think it's trustworthy company.

I have completed hundreds of transactions with PayPal (sending and receiving funds) and never had a single problem. I'm curious why you think they are not trustworthy.

I admit that their fees can get a little high at times, but that shouldn't effect you as a sender of funds.

Me too - I've completed hundreds across lots of countries and never had an issue. PayPal is owned by eBay which is, AFAIK, as relatively trustworthy company...

There have been many, many, many people who have had serious problems with PayPal. Type 'paypal sucks' in Google and see for yourself.

That site has some valid concerns (and a funny comic smile.gif ), but it sure knows how to blow things out of proportion. Also, there are millions of transactions that have gone just fine. Bottom line: Like everything else, if you don't want to use PayPal, then don't. You'll be limiting the services that you can have access to, but that's the price you'll pay for having the freedom to not use PayPal.

There have been many, many, many people who have had serious problems with PayPal.

From Paypals website...

* PayPal's total payment volume, the total value of transactions in Q1 2007, was over $11 billion, up 30% year over year.
* PayPal transacted about $1,461 in total payment volume every second in Q1 2007.
* PayPal has 164 million total accounts and is available in 190 markets.

Any company with that many transactions and that much money changing hands is bound to have upset a few customers, but I wouldn't call them untrustworthy.

Now I just need to come up with a way to intercept a few minutes worth of those transactions ninja.gif

Of course there are... But it's always interesting, to watch closely how a company reacts in the event of something going wrong.
As far as I can see, if anything goes wrong with PayPal, the one who pays the money is always the customer.
It's very interesting (and not pleasant at all) to read the articles concerning PayPal in the German computer magazine c't (which I judge to be a quite neutral magazine) over last few years.

I never searched for "PayPal sucks" on the internet. But I do know one person who lost several hundred euros because PayPal made a mistake and wasn't suuportive in any way.

All this didn't get any better, since PayPal became a real bank. The last thing I heard about this topic some months ago was that their terms of service did not comply with European banking laws. I know they are an American company, but if they offer their services on the European market, I'd expect them to respect the local laws.
I'm not sure if this has changed by now, but taking everything I heard and read about PayPal into account, I am still not able to trust them.

Right. That's exactly what I'm doing.
Unfortunately this means that I am not able to support LAVA by buing a premium membership. sad.gif

I wrote this posting to see how others feel about this topic.
Is it just crazy me who tries to see a problem where nobody else sees one? In this case, the best thing Michael can do is to simply ignore me wink.gif
Is there a number of other people who see the same problem? Then it might really be a good idea to find some additional way to do money transactions.

BTW: Don't be suprised if I don't answer during the next two weeks. The reason won't be a lack of interest in this topic, but I will be on vacation in Egypt. biggrin.gif
